Step Three. Headline Challenge Countdown: Nailing a Strategy, Playing with Headlines.

May 27th, 2008 · 8 Comments

STEP ONE- Intro
STEP TWO- Defining a Target Market.
STEP THREE- Strategies and Headlines- You are at Step Three

I’ve drawn from ideas you guys have posted and my own to develop what you see here.

Strategy Positioning Statement:

This dvd nurtures emotional growth in children by inspiring self expression which is the key to fostering self confidence and success.

Target Market- There’s a lot more to the target of course. See Step Two for an idea of defining the target:

Women with daughters who want toys or DVDs that nurture something or offer some developmental or educational benefit. They are the segment of the market who will value this the most and are most likely to see the benefit of this DVD. While there are many potential target markets, we want the target who will value what it has to offer the most and aim communications at that market. Headline Ideas:

Possible Headlines- I usually write pages of these:

Give your child a gift that will last a lifetime by nurturing confidence and self expression now.

Boost her self confidence early by giving her an outlet for self expression.

It may look like a dance DVD. But it’s a confidence booster in disguise.

Successful and accomplished women begin as confident little girls.

Successful and accomplished women begin as confident little girls with outlets for healthy self expression.

The DVD for the mom whose job is to develop a person with self confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

Invest in your child’s future sense of self worth by offering outlets for healthy self expression.

It is a fun dance DVD. It’s also an investment in your child’s emotional development.

Successful and accomplished women have opportunities for self expression as children.

Long after other DVDs are forgotten, the lessons in this one will be flourishing in ways you never imagined.

Long after other DVDs are forgotten, the lessons in this one will still be fostering positive emotional development.

Support for subheads and copy (this will be developed more and are just quick thoughts right now):

  • Not your typical plug-the-kid-into-the-TV-set dvd, but one that fosters development, movement and creative expression and a positive sense of self worth.
  • This engages kids in gross motor activities and sensory development (Paul, help me with the wording of this bullet since you know the science behind this.)
  • You’ll be surprised at the discoveries you’ll make about your child when you see how she interprets and utilizes the lessons in this dvd. Sure to make you smile, too.
  • Call to action: The most important years for laying the foundation of future self confidence are the preschool years. Don’t miss this opportunity.

Hey Anne! Sorry to be late, but see I am here :)

I just read step one and two. Must say, it was a good brainstorming :) I enjoyed it. You said it all when I was reading Step Two.

Here is something that my mind cooked up; though quite similar to your thoughts..

    The headline can be:

Foster your kid’s self esteem by nurturing her potential and desires in a fun way

And the subhead can be something like:

You will wonder watching your little girl exploring her musical intelligence with this dance dvd. Those confident steps tuned with fine rhythms will surely going to bring a positive self worth in your child. Boost up her confidence with this dvd.

    Thanks :)

I like the “fun way” part. Sort of education in disguise. Maybe in the headline but at the very least in a subhead. You want mom to be aware that it has a benefit and is fun so the child is more likely to ask for it.

    Hi Anne,
The science is that movement feeds the senses, which activate and help form neural pathways in the brain; which are the foundation of learning.

As your child experiences the world of dance her senses are stimulated and learning begins. A rich network of connections are made in the brain’s neural system which help your child grow, make choices, increase self-esteem and build the skills for lifelong success.

Time for Dancing is not only a fantastic gift to give your child, but you will feel like the greatest mom on Earth, knowing that your child is taking the first steps to a successful life.

Movement builds the skills for lifelong learning success.

Dance is the superhighway to your child’s intelligence growth and success.

Time for Dancing is a superhighway to your child’s lifelong success.

Sorry, I got carried away and started writing main body text, but you get the idea of using science to validate the product.
There are many scientific references to movement, sensory stimulation and the brain’s development.

    Have a great day

Paul- There is some good stuff there. Thank you for explaining how it works and helping us understand that. I’m pretty sure we couldn’t have found that out anywhere else. At least not easily.

    Hi Anne,
Just another interesting science fact that may fit this product:

The New York Longitudinal Study from infancy to early adult life by Stella Chess and Thomas Alexander discovered three critical factors that helped create competent adults:
    1. Rich sensory environments
    2. Freedom to explore those environments with few limitations
    3. Parents who were available to answer a child’s questions

According to early childhood studies there are three crucial factors that are needed for competency in adulthood, Time for Dancing provides those crucial factors: a rich sensory environment for your child to explore on their own, and you nearby to offer guidance and answer any questions.

This may need a little reworking.

    Have a great day.

    Hi all,

I’m enjoying watching this process unfold and keen to see where we end up with nutshell headlines.

So far, I love the balance shown in combining ‘development’ and ‘fun’ - I do think both of these need to be included.

I like Paul’s ‘first steps’ concept, and the idea of having the sensory environment + mom nearby. Chillingbreeze uses ‘confident steps’ which is very strong too.

I also like Anne’s ideas around ‘it’s a dance dvd’ but with long-term lessons
